James Morris School 6th Grade Tea in the Aline Brothier Morris Reading Room

Sixth graders at the James Morris School experienced a rite of passage on Friday, May 14, sipping tea and sampling baked goods while on their best behavior and dressed to impress.  The students paid a visit to the Aline Brothier Morris Reading Room at the Morris Public Library to enjoy a Tea which has become an annual tradition at the James Morris School.  It is intended to give the graduating class a look at another era and to introduce them to some of the rich history of our community.  The Tea is sponsored by the Reading Room Committee.

James Morris School Visits

In October, Tracy Keilty began bringing her sixth-grade class for library orientation sessions. The students were given a tour of the library and an introduction to the Bibliomation on-line system, including its catalog. They were also shown how to access their Bibliomation accounts and practice acceptable Internet use. These sessions continued through November.

In January and February, Mrs. Keilty’s students were introduced to the iCONN magazine databases, part of the Connecticut State Library’s group of resources. After learning procedures for logging on to the iCONN home page, selecting a database, and conducting keyword searches, students searched for articles on suggested topics and then researched topics of their choosing for reports. During each session, students also selected books for reports and pleasure reading. These students are becoming very proficient in good research techniques.
